Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about ABA therapy, Medicaid Waiver, and getting started with Rising Tide Behavior.

What is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)?
ABA is a scientifically validated, evidence-based approach to understanding and changing behavior. It uses principles of learning and motivation to increase helpful behaviors (like communication, social skills, and daily living tasks) and reduce behaviors that interfere with learning or quality of life. ABA is widely considered the gold standard treatment for individuals with autism and developmental disabilities.
Who can benefit from ABA therapy?
ABA therapy benefits individuals of all ages (children, adolescents, young adults, and adults) who have developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), behavioral challenges, or goals around life skills and independence. At Rising Tide Behavior, we have a strong focus on young adults and adults who are often underserved by traditional ABA providers. See all of our services to learn more.
What is a BCBA?
A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a graduate-level clinician with specialized training in behavior analysis. BCBAs must complete rigorous coursework, supervised fieldwork hours, and pass a national certification exam. Melanie Lynch holds both a Master of Arts (MA) and her BCBA certification, bringing over 15 years of hands-on experience to every client.
Do you accept health insurance?
No, Rising Tide Behavior does NOT accept traditional health insurance. We are transparent about this upfront so families can plan accordingly. If you have questions about payment options, please reach out.
How do I get started?
Getting started is simple. Reach out through our Contact page or call 239-841-1948. We'll schedule an initial conversation to learn about your family's needs, discuss which services are the right fit, and walk you through next steps. No question is too small, we're here to help.
What areas of Southwest Florida do you serve?
We serve individuals and families throughout Southwest Florida (SWFL), including Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, Bonita Springs, and surrounding communities. We offer both in-home and community-based services, so we come to you. Contact us to confirm availability in your area.
Do you offer services for adults?
Yes, and this is a particular passion of Melanie's. Many ABA providers focus exclusively on children, but Rising Tide Behavior specializes in supporting young adults and adults with developmental and behavioral needs. Our Adult Day Training support, life skills training, community integration, and other services are specifically designed for this often-underserved population.
What is the difference between in-home and community-based ABA?
In-home ABA therapy is delivered in your home, a familiar, comfortable environment where many daily living skills are practiced. Community-based ABA takes therapy into real-world settings like grocery stores, parks, and social venues, helping individuals generalize skills into the places they actually need to use them. Many families benefit from a combination of both.
What is an RBT?
A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a paraprofessional who implements ABA therapy under the close supervision of a BCBA. RBTs complete training and pass a national certification. Rising Tide Behavior provides RBT supervision to ensure quality, ethical, and consistent ABA delivery.
